Learn About Breast Cancer from a Survivor at Luncheon

Houston Northwest Medical Center
May 16, 2008

Fran Padgett, author, artist, activist and breast cancer survivor will be the special guest speaker at a complimentary luncheon and art exhibit hosted by Houston Northwest Medical Center. People interested in attending may register for one of the event dates, either Thursday, June 12 at Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in The Woodlands, or Thursday, June 19 at Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille on Cypresswood. Attendees also will receive a signed copy of Padgett’s book, Breast Cancer: No One Chose This Journey, at no charge.

Padgett will talk about the triumphs, laughter and tears she experienced during her battle with breast cancer and offer comfort and inspiration to others. She tells her story with vivid candor and self-effacing humor while exploring her own personal choices and sensations of survival. “I’ll be a breast cancer survivor when I die of something else,” says Padgett. “In the meantime, I expect to be alive every day in every sense of the word.” She will discuss the complexities of healing while encouraging others through both her words and artwork. “Don’t wait,” advises Padgett. “Blend your creative passions with your desires for family and life, and take the time to indulge and enjoy them all as often as possible.”

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Padgett has written several books about the disease. She is a prolific artist with works in both private and corporate collections. Her paintings have been displayed in banks, local galleries and corporate offices in Texas and Arkansas. She is a charter member of the Pearl Fincher Fine Arts Museum and a member of Northwest Houston Business and Professional Women. Padgett is a supporter of the Care, Share and Be Aware breast cancer support group at Houston Northwest Medical Center, which recognized her with the 2007 Denise Veillon Memorial award.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in The Woodlands is located at 6700 Woodlands Parkway. Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Champions is located at 9730 Cypresswood Drive in Houston. Both events will begin with registration at 11:45 a.m. and lunch to follow from noon to 1 p.m. To register for one of the events, call 281-580-0000. Reservations are required.
