   Childbirth Classes
Houston Northwest Medical Center offers a variety of education classes for expectant parents. To register for a class or for more information, please call 281-580-0000 or register online.

Registration is required for all classes; there may be costs associated with certain classes. Payment can be made with a credit card by phone; checks and money orders are accepted on-site at the start of the classes.

Preparing for Childbirth
Learn factual information about birthing techniques, including relaxation, the labor process, breathing exercises, physical conditioning, the coach's role and comfort techniques. A tour of the Women’s Atrium is included. The class is offered as a one session "fast track" series on a Saturday those busy parents-to-be, or in a three-week series on weekday evenings that provides in-depth practice and demonstration time for parents. Participants should bring 2-3 pillows for class.

Preparing for Childbirth Refresher

This review class updates couples on new techniques in childbirth preparation since their last birth. The class includes practicing relaxation and breathing exercises, and an abbreviated tour of the Women’s Atrium. Participants should bring 2-3 pillows for class.

Infant Care Class
Learn practical information on caring for your new bundle of joy. This class covers a variety of topics including bathing techniques, choosing day care, coping with infant sickness and crying, child-proofing your home and other safety issues. A discussion will also provide tips on what to watch for in your newborn. Grandparents and baby sitters are encouraged to attend.

Breastfeeding Class

This one-session class offers basic information on nursing your infant. Discussion topics include feeding problems and remedies, breast pumping and equipment, and learning how to tell if your baby is getting enough to eat. This class also covers working while breastfeeding and weaning.
