Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States. Most heart attacks are not that easy to recognize. They may start slowly with mild pain and discomfort.
Some warning signs of a heart attack include the following:
- Chest discomfort
- Discomfort in other areas of the upper body, such as back, neck, jaw, stomach or arms
- Shortness of breath
- Other signs, including nausea, lightheadedness or breaking into a cold sweat
The Heart Center at Houston Northwest Medical Center is here to help you combat the threats of this silent killer.
Free Heart Healthy Preventative Screenings We offer preventative heart health screenings that are designed to give you the tools you need to better manage your heart health. The screening includes a personal risk assessment with a registered nurse that is based on results of a blood glucose test, blood cholesterol test, blood pressure check and weight analysis.
Online Health Tools The American Heart Association has identified several risk factors for developing heart disease. The more risk factors you have, the greater your chance of developing coronary heart disease. You can’t control some of the risk factors, such as age, gender or race. But you can modify, treat or control others, including blood pressure, cholesterol, physical activity, weight, diabetes or smoking.
Our Online Health Tools can help you be more informed about your health so you can take steps to a healthier heart!
Mended Hearts Support Group Mended Hearts is a free support group affiliated with the American Heart Association that offers the gift of hope for heart patients, their families and caregivers. Participants learn about reconditioning the heart through exercise, diet and lifestyle changes.
The group meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 PM in the Northwest Professional Building, Classroom A, located at 17117 Cali Road. Call 281-893-6361 for more information.
Physician Referral We can help you find a doctor who meets your needs and is on your insurance plan. We may answer questions regarding what types of insurance plans are honored, including Medicare and Medicaid, how long they have been practicing, where they went to school, and whether they speak Spanish. Our information database on our doctors is frequently updated, so you can receive current information.
