The Breast Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology to perform mammography, stereotactic biopsy, ultrasound guided biopsy and fine needle aspiration, and our staff includes radiologists, surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, pathologists and professionally trained technologists to assess and evaluate your individual breast health needs.

Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths among women. An estimated 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer among women are forecast this year. Approximately 40,460 women will die from the disease. The American Cancer Society recommends women receive an annual mammogram from age 40 on. Every woman should perform a breast self-exam every month and see her physician for a breast examination every year.

A mammogram is a safe, low-dose X-ray picture of the breast taken to detect breast cancer at an early stage. During the mammography exam, the breast will be compressed to minimize radiation exposure and allow visualization of abnormalities which otherwise might not be detected. During a standard mammogram, two views are obtained of each breast, a view from the top and a sideway view. The examination usually lasts approximately half an hour.

The Breast Center uses the MammoPad® breast cushion to provide a softer, more comfortable mammogram.
