The Emergency Department at Houston Northwest Medical Center treats approximately 65,000 patients each year. Patients to the Emergency Department are separated by clinical need into specialized care areas. All patients benefit from advanced technology, quick response and an experienced team of professionals who care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The 49-bed Emergency Department is equipped with two trauma rooms and 47 private treatment rooms to provide quality care for all patients, including heart attacks and strokes.
Our Services
Minor Care Unit The Minor Care Unit is devoted to patients whose complaints are less urgent or life threatening, such as cuts that require stitches, sprains, sore throats and other minor illnesses. The goal of the Minor Care Unit is to provide care more quickly during the Department’s busiest hours.
Accredited Chest Pain Center Houston Northwest Medical Center has a dedicated group of cardiovascular surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, and technicians that operate as a synchronized team designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to have that blood flow restored. Quick recognition followed by rapid response of the emergency team allows heart attack victims to obtain a diagnostic heart catheterization in a matter of minutes. Based on findings, life saving interventions are performed and blood flow is restored which reduces, or in some cases avoids, damage to heart muscle.
Houston Northwest Medical Center’s ability to quickly recognize and treat patients suffering from a heart attack has earned them the distinction of being recognized as an Accredited Chest Pain Center. To receive accreditation, a hospital must undergo a site evaluation by reviewers from the Society of Chest Pain Center, who use a set of stringent criteria which were developed using recommendations from the American Heart Association, The American College of Cardiology and other organizations dedicated to reducing heart attack deaths. Currently, Houston Northwest Medical Center is accredited at the highest level, and with only 23 hospitals in the entire state of Texas with the same level of accreditation, our commitment to provide the highest quality, patient-focused healthcare is proven.
Collaboration with Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Services When a heart attack occurs, it is critical to recognize the symptoms and respond immediately. Speedy treatment can not only mean the difference between life and death, but also between disability and a return to an active lifestyle after a heart attack. Understanding the importance of fast reactions and quick response from the medical team, Houston Northwest Medical Center and Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS) joined forces to implement protocols that improve response mechanisms designed to decrease door-to-balloon time – the time that elapses from a patient’s arrival to treatment with angioplasty – for patients suffering from a severe heart attack in which an artery is significantly blocked.
