Houston Northwest Medical Center: A Quarter Century of Caring

In 1971 a group of physicians bought 60 acres off a two-lane, farm-to-market throughway called "Jackrabbit Road" in northwest Harris County. Back then it was nothing more than a cow pasture.

Those founding physicians were convinced the area held great potential for growth, and there were no medical facilities nearby. They were right.

Houston Northwest Medical Center (HNMC) opened in 1973. It's been about 25 years, and in that time HNMC has grown to become North Houston's largest, most comprehensive health care facility. The medical staff includes more than 500 physicians, dentists and podiatrists, who offer comprehensive services in more than 54 medical specialties.

The hospital's wide range of diagnostic, medical and surgical services includes cardiovascular services, women's health in The Women's Atrium, orthopedics, neurosciences and neurosurgery, oncology, 24-hour Emergency Department, Skilled Nursing Facility, home health care, outpatient surgery and pediatrics.

The Houston Northwest HEALTHLINE is a resource for the community and patients offering class registration and free services that include physician referral and transportation to medical appointments.

HNMC is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities.

The HNMC Cancer Program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
