It’s Time for Your Child’s Flu Shot

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting the flu shot every year, between September and mid-November, before the flu season hits (usually December to April). The flu shot takes one to two weeks to become effective.  Although there are many new medications designed to treat flu symptoms and even shorten the duration of the illness, the flu vaccine still offers the best protection against the flu.

Don’t Ignore Bullying

Bullying can happen in school, on the playground—and now even on the Internet through social networking sites. Bullying is intentional tormenting that can be physical, social, or psychological. Hitting, shoving, threatening, shunning, and spreading rumors can all be forms of bullying. Kids who experience bullying can become depressed, develop low self-esteem, avoid school, feel physically ill, and even contemplate suicide.

So before Jack Frost leaves frosty crystal patterns on windows or peeks through cracks everywhere, you can take steps to keep your children healthy, your house warm, and your car ready to brave the elements.
