Since its inception more than 37 years ago, the Auxiliary at Houston Northwest Medical Center has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to local to high school and college students pursuing a medical or health-related career.
“This year marks a milestone in the Auxiliary's history,” says Drew Kahn, chief executive officer at Houston Northwest Medical Center. “Proceeds from the hospital gift shop, which the Auxiliary operates, have funded more than two million dollars in scholarships to local students pursuing a medical or health-related career.”
Photographed above are a few scholarship recipients from 2010 and years past: Brittany Loisel (Klein ISD), Jesus Lechuga (Aldine ISD), Amie Hall (Aldine ISD), Olufela Koleoso (Spring ISD), Jane Eleri (Spring ISD), Heidi Bachrich (Klein ISD), Kimberly Edmonson (Aldine ISD), Christopher Ching (Klein ISD), Mohammad Moiz (Spring ISD) and Michael E. Garcia, RN, BSN (University of Texas).
Each year the Auxiliary awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school students enrolled in the Aldine, Klein and Spring school districts, as well as several college students. These scholarships are given directly to local students to help cover the costs of tuition, books and associated fees when enrolled in college or a medical training program.
“Our Auxiliary members are an incredibly giving group of people who come from all walks of life and choose to selflessly volunteer their time, talents and efforts to not only make our hospital a special place,” adds Kahn.
The Auxiliary at Houston Northwest Medical Center is independently operated and managed solely by volunteers who dedicate their time and compassion to serving others. The Auxiliary consists of approximately 254 senior volunteers and 60 junior volunteers.
