Houston Northwest Medical Center announced that it has received seven quality and two Center of Excellence (COE) designations from CIGNA HealthCare. The quality designations reflect the hospital’s ability to meet rigorous quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice. The COE designations mean that the hospital is able to met CIGNA’s highest standards for quality and efficiency. The hospital received designations for 2010 in the following areas:
- Adult Pneumonia
- Angioplasty*
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting*
- Cardiac Catheterization
- Heart Attack
- Heart Failure
- Vaginal Delivery

The CIGNA designations are based on the hospital’s effectiveness in treating the selected condition or performing the procedure. The designation measures and weighs The Leapfrog Group Patient Safety Ratings, as well as mortality and complication rates.
