Houston Northwest Medical Center recently donated $70,000 to Lone Star College-North Harris to buy a simulation mannequin for the clinical laboratory in the school’s new Health Professions Building. The mannequin will be part of an advanced simulation center designed for use with a multidisciplinary health care focus using the latest instructional technologies.

“We have been a strong partner with Lone Star College-North Harris for more than 30 years and with their new campus right next to us, we felt that it was important to help them out in terms of educating nurses,” says Terry Kirk, RN, MSN, EdD, chief nursing officer at Houston Northwest Medical Center. “We look forward to working with Lone Star in the future and helping educate nurses, many of whom are hired to work at our hospital.”
As part of the new facility, the mannequin will be used by students enrolled in the school’s nursing, respiratory, medical assisting, and other programs. It will also be available to members of the hospital’s nursing staff for educational purposes. The school’s Health Professions Building is located immediately north of Houston Northwest Medical Center at the corner of Peakwood and Red Oak Drives.
Houston Northwest Medical Center serves as the school’s primary site for clinical experience for nursing students. Many of the hospital’s nurses serve as preceptors when students come to the hospital.
