The hospital can be a scary place for children. But at Houston Northwest Medical Center, the experienced staff of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals knows how to offer the reassuring words and gentle touch that can help turn fear of the unknown into a positive experience. Our staff – many of whom are parents, or grandparents, themselves – understand your desire to nurture and protect your child. That’s why we provide a soothing atmosphere and involve you in all aspects of your child’s care.
The hospital offers a broad array of outpatient pediatric services. Because approximately 30 percent of patients in the emergency department are young children, we are prepared to care for a variety of pediatric emergencies, ranging from broken bones to high fever. Echocardiograms can be performed for newborns and older children, as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography scans for children over two months old. Children over the age of 10 often feel comfortable enough to remain still during a 45-minute MRI scan while their parents stay in the exam room. Parents can trust our pediatric anesthesiologists to care for younger patients who may need anesthesia during an exam. Click here for more information about pediatric MRI capabilities.
The hospital also offers various polysomnography procedures for children age four and older. The four-bedroom sleep laboratory is located adjacent to the pediatric patient rooms, allowing multidisciplinary care with access to pediatricians and pediatric nurses. Parents can stay with the child during an overnight study.
