Sleep In America
Americans lead active, busy lives that may be affecting the quality of their sleep. Nearly half of adults in this country would like to improve their sleep habits, and 37 percent believe they don’t get enough sleep.

The Sleep Center at Houston Northwest Medical Center
The Sleep Center at Houston Northwest Medical Center offers both diagnosis and treatment for many types of sleep/wake disorders. We understand that some sleep problems can be severe, so we provide a restful atmosphere in our home-like setting and controlled environment. We appreciate the importance of a good night’s sleep and know how imperative it is to live a healthy life.

Persistent changes in the normal sleep/wake cycle may indicate the presence of a sleep disorder. Sleep disorders have many different causes and many different symptoms. Some people have a hard time sleeping, while others sleep at inappropriate times. Some problems are temporary, but others are chronic.

About Sleep
The National Sleep Foundation offers the following tips for a good night’s sleep.
  - Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol close to bedtime.
  - Minimize light, noise and temperature extremes in the bedroom.
  - Maintain a regular sleep schedule, even on weekends and days off.
  - Finish eating at least two to three hours before going to bed.
  - Exercise regularly.

A simple phone call to The Sleep Center is all that is needed to set up a consultation with a board certified sleep medicine specialist. Based on the initial consultation, a sleep physician may recommend further testing. Once a diagnosis is made, treatment options could include habit modification, medication, use of medical devices or surgery.

For more information, call 281-397-2719. A physician’s order is required for a sleep study.

Our Services

Polysomnogram
Proper diagnosis of sleep disorders sometimes requires an overnight sleep study or polysomnogram. This kind of sleep evaluation includes brain wave and heart rhythm monitoring, and tests for eye movements, muscle tension, respiratory activity and blood-oxygen saturation. Specially trained technologists monitor the patient throughout the night in comfortable surroundings designed to simulate the sleep environment at home.

The test is performed to diagnose possible sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy or restless leg syndrome. The test is painless, noninvasive and lasts no longer than a couple of nights.

The Sleep Center at Houston Northwest Medical Center now offers sleep studies for pediatric patients.
